About Kedarnath

Kedarnath Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage according to the Hindu religion. The temple is situated in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India and therefore Kedarnath temple is visited by thousands of devotees every year. Kedarnath, along with being a Holy place, is one of the Char Dham temples (Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri). This is only 5 km. far away from Gaurikund (the endpoint to reach Kedarnath temple). Reaching Gaurikund, your Kedarnath yatra starts with a paved foot.

Now, the Kedarnath Yatra starts off for the temple with a distance of 14 Km from the Gaurikund. Gaurikund is well connected by roads so you can reach here easily by vehicle (facility available for pilgrims). While passing through the Gaurikund, you get stunned finding a hot spring in the middle of the snow-covered landscape. Taking a bath at this hot spring to go to the Kedarnath temple is known to be good according to Hindu belief. Once passing the Gaurikund, your journey goes through the Jungle Chatti, Bheembali, and Lichauli. And finally, you reach the Kedarnath base camp that is only 1 km. far from the Kedarnath temple.

Day 1: Haridwar to Guptkashi to Gaurikund and Kedarnath

By Road :-

  • Haridwar to Guptkashi (approximately 7-8 hours).
  • After breakfast, drive to Gaurikund (around 2-3 hours).
  • From Gaurikund, you'll start your trek to Kedarnath. The trek is approximately 22 kilometers long and can take 5-7 hours.
  • Arrive in Kedarnath and check-in to your accommodation.
  • Visit the Kedarnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, and seek blessings.
  • Spend the night in Kedarnath.

Day 2: Kedarnath to Gaurikund and Guptkashi

By Road :-

  • Early morning visit to the temple for darshan and to participate in the morning Aarti.
  • Start your trek back to Gaurikund.
  • From Gaurikund, go back to Guptkashi.
  • Check-in to your accommodation in Guptkashi and rest.

Day 3: Guptkashi to Haridwar/Rishikesh

By Road :-

  • After breakfast, drive back to Haridwar or Rishikesh.
  • After breakfast, drive back to Haridwar or Rishikesh.

Day 4: Departure

By Road :-

  • Depending on your travel plans, you can explore more of Haridwar or Rishikesh in the morning.
  • Depart for your onward journey, or extend your stay if you have more time.

By Air :-

  • Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport to Kedarnath situated at a distance of 238kms. Jolly Grant Airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights. Gaurikund is well connected by motorable roads with Jolly Grant Airport. Taxis are available from Jolly Grant Airport to Gaurikund.

By rail :-

  • Rishikesh Railway Station is the nearest railway head from Kedarnath. Located about 210 km from Gaurikund, Rishikesh Railway Station is well connected to almost all the major cities of India and has a regular trains on a daily basis.
