About Yamunotri

Yamunotri is a sacred town located in the Uttarkashi district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas and is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites, along with Badrinath, Gangotri, and Kedarnath.

Day 1: Haridwar to Yamunotri

By Road :-

  • After breakfast, depart for Yamunotri by road.
  • The journey from Dehradun/Haridwar to Yamunotri is approximately 230-260 km and can take 8-10 hours due to the hilly terrain.
  • Along the way, you'll pass through picturesque landscapes, small towns, and the confluence of rivers.
  • Reach the town of Hanuman Chatti, which is the base for the trek to Yamunotri.
  • The trek is around 6-7 km and may take 3-4 hours to reach the Yamunotri Temple.
  • Check into a guesthouse/hotel near the temple.
  • Visit the temple in the evening for the Yamuna Aarti.
  • Overnight stay in Yamunotri.

Day 2: Yamunotri Darshan and Return

By Road :-

  • Wake up early and visit the Yamunotri Temple for a darshan (prayer).
  • After darshan, take a holy dip in the Yamuna River at the nearby Surya Kund.
  • Return to the guesthouse/hotel for breakfast.
  • Drive back to Dehradun or Haridwar.
  • Check into your hotel upon arrival.
  • Rest and relax after the trek.
  • Explore the local markets or visit nearby attractions if time permits.

Day 3: Departure

By Road :-

  • After breakfast, check out from your hotel.
  • If time allows, you can explore more of Dehradun or Haridwar.
  • Depart for the Dehradun Airport or Haridwar Railway Station for your onward journey.

By Air :-

  • Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest Airport to Yamunotri situated at a distance of 210kms. It is well connected to Delhi with daily flights. Hanuman Chatti is directly not connected by motorable roads with Jolly Grant Airport but taxis are available from Jolly Grant Airport to Hanuman Chatti.

By Rail :-

  • The nearest railway stations to Yamunotri are Rishikesh and Dehradun. Dehradun railway station is situated 175kms from Yamunotri and Rishikesh railway station is situated 200kms before Yamunotri on NH58. Rishikesh and Dehradun are well connected by railway networks with major destinations of India.

By Road :-

  • Yamunotri is directly not connected with motorable roads and the trek commences from Hanuman Chatti. Hanuman Chatti is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of Uttarakhand state. Buses to Rishikesh are available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate.
